Chapter 2: Skills Required for Business Analyst

Analytical Skills

Analytical skill is required for the business analyst to analyze the business problem and identify the solution. There different types techniques to conduct analysis.

Example: Business Process models, decision models and Use cases

We will discuss on these techniques in the later chapters.

Technical Skills

Basic Technical skills are required for the business analyst as he/she need to closely work with IT teams such as development and testing teams. Technical skills such as architecture of system being used, basics of SDLC (Software Development Life cycle) and SQL (Structured Query Language) knowledge is required.

We will discuss on these skills in later chapters.

Communication Skills

Business analyst need to communicate clearly without any ambiguity. Clear communication is important to the success of the project. Good written and verbal communication skills are necessary for the business analyst.

Documentation and Specification Skills

Business analyst need to create clear and concise document. Business analyst may use the techniques such as Visual Modeling, Flowcharts, and Data flow diagrams for easy understanding of the documentation. It is important to specify the requirements clearly and in easy to understand manner in the business requirement document.

We will discuss on these skills in later chapters.
